Metric

I find it baffling that I never got around to writing about Metric before today - just another sign of my egregious, bone-headed laziness, I suppose. Anyway, I finally heard the band's new release Fantasies yesterday and am pretty convinced it's my favorite Metric album to date - sharp-edged indie rock with a nice electronic sheen, possibly a little more polished than previous efforts but that's how I like it, so. This was one of those records that I expected to be good, and was pleased to find it was even better than I was expecting.

Metric - Help I'm Alive
Metric - Satellite Mind

Recently on Comfort Radio:
Shpongle - Vapour Rumours
The Minor Canon - Killing Spiders
Hooverphonic - Battersea

No, no, nooooo! Metric is my favorite band on earth and this last album was lackluster, at best! Old World Underground was on heavy rotation for at least 2 years and Grow Up and Blow Away one of the best pop albums of all time. I even got my (secretly sensitive) muscle bound boyfriend to fall instantly in love with it. And he, in turn, got his hip hoppin fool of a gutter snipe mistress to bow before its bubblegum splendor, but thats another story. I almost sobbed when I heard this new thing. It sounds like theyre bored. But at least it is better than that last fiasco, Live It Up, or whatever. That might not even be the name. I cant remember seeing as I listened to it once and threw it out the window.
