Moderat

Take one part Apparat and two parts Modeselektor and you've got the fantastic collaboration known as Moderat. The group's self-titled debut (aside from a lone single that came out years ago) has been in heavy rotation ever since I picked it up, particularly after seeing them live a few weeks ago in a rare U.S. appearance. Dreamy, iterative, engaging electronica that seems simple at first, but reveals layer after layer upon repeated listening - I guess you could call this IDM, but there's a pleasing pop touch in the mix that opens up the sound in unexpected ways. A total treat.
