The Avalanches
Another Wednesday guest post from Coe, who writes:
"Been listening to some albums that have been around for a while... The Avalanches created that rare beast - an album that is interesting from beginning to end, put together with care and enough variety to keep me listening. The genre is apparently Cut & Paste (where do they get this stuff?), which, like Dream Pop, I'd never heard of before seeing that it consists exclusively of groups I like. They take samples of random sounds and old instructional videos and some sweet electronica and stitch them together into a surprisingly coherent whole. The closest similarity I can come up with is The Art of Noise. From the 2001 album Since I Left You."
The Avalanches - Etoh
The Avalanches - Summer Crane
"And as much as I would like to dislike it, I don't. I love this track. Its biggest fault is that it'll stay in your head for days and then pop up at inopportune times. (Extra for experts... see if you can spot the word 'avalanches'.)"
The Avalanches - Frontier Psychiatrist
Recently on Comfort Radio:
The Helio Sequence - Repeater
Delarosa and Asora - Wiffle
Miles Davis - Meaning Of The Blues

sorry, but the album came out in 2000, not 2001. and yeah, this is one of the best albums of the moden age!!! for a more insane version of the album, check out their rare "GIMIX" promo mix, which came out at around 1999, I think. as well as their other famous live mixes, like "cornerstone live", "morning becomes eclectic special", & the "jan", "feb" & "march" 2004 mini mixes. there are also quite a handful of remixes circling out there, which i hope they'd compile in one album. current fave is BADLY DRAWN BOY's the shining(AVALANCHES good word for the weekend mix). they've also done remixes for GERLING, THE CONCRETES, and BELLE & SEBASTIAN.
