What else is new
Episode four of this week's "the shit I wasted my money on the other night because I was depressed" theme continues! It's a good thing I have distractions like this blog to keep my mind off my poor showing at that callback. Well, this blog, and lots and lots of alcohol.
Today we're featuring Telefon Tel Aviv, a band I've been meaning to check out for a while now. Very rich, very lush poptronica - kind of like Thievery Corporation meets Dntel meets Craig Armstrong. Or something. It slips a bit too far into the "pop" part of "poptronica" on occasion, but there's still a fair bit worth checking out. From the 2004 album Map Of What Is Effortless.

Not really impressed by this new stuff by TTA. The tunes from the last album sounded lush and textured, while this (at least to me) sounds more like a generic electronica album. I'm all for artist growth and whatnot, but this feels more like an attempt to make the mainstream by playing by everyone else's rules, not doing what they do best.

I can't believe you found this! Their previous album has been listed as unavailable on my amazon wish list forever, and I'd given up on getting it. I find now that there's a *new* version of the album that's available. Yippee! Now I have to go check out samples to see if I actually want it.
